Dr. Zufan Abera

Board Member

Dr. Zufan Abera Damtew is a seasoned public health specialist currently serving as a senior adviser for the immunization program at the Ethiopia Ministry of Health (MoH). With over 30 years of experience in the Ethiopian healthcare system, she has worked extensively for both government and international NGOs and has contributed to health initiatives in various African countries. Her previous roles include Deputy Director General at the Armauer Hansen Research Institute and Director of the Health Extension and Primary Health Service Directorate at the MoH. Dr. Zufan’s hands-on experience encompasses health program implementation, training, and mentorship in the Amhara region.

She holds a BSc in Nursing, a Master’s in Public Health, and a PhD from the University of Oslo, and has published over 20 papers in peer-reviewed journals. A dedicated member of several professional organizations, including the Ethiopia Public Health Association and the African Women Research Group, she also serves on the HABTech Board of Directors. Outside her professional life, Dr. Zufan enjoys teamwork, learning from others, and sharing her experiences, while balancing her career with family life as a mother of four.
